Sport for kids

nullParticipating in sport and recreation from a young age has many benefits. Kids who engage in physical activity are more inclined to be happier, healthier and more active as adults. The city can help you find a sport that is right for your child.

Find a club

Belonging to a club provides more than just physical and mental health benefits. It is an opportunity to try new things, make friends and have fun.

Check out the Department of Sport and Recreation's Find a Club database, which has a great range of sports and nearly 3000 clubs listed.

KidSport makes it possible for Western Australian children to participate in community sport and recreation, regardless of their financial circumstances. The program provides eligible families with up to $200 annually for each of their children aged between five and eighteen years, to subsidise fees to join a sport and recreation club.

The cities of Subiaco and Nedlands recently formed a partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation to provide the KidSport program, part of the department's larger $20 million Sport 4 All initiative, which aims to build stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities.

What are the eligibility criteria?

  • Applicants must be aged five to eighteen years.
  • Applicants must have a have a Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card, or be referred by a referral agent such as a school, juvenile justice team, government agency or health practitioner.
  • Applicants' primary place of residence must be in the City of Subiaco or the City of Nedlands.

How to apply?

  • Application forms can be obtained from the cities of Subiaco and Nedlands' websites, administration centres, from a sport or recreation club or a referral agent.
  • A parent/guardian needs to fill in the application and take it to be validated at the local government administration centre in which they reside.
  • A photocopy of the Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card must be attached.
  • KidSport application form and brochure (PDF, 3.2MB)

Alternatively referral agents may assist in filling out the application, complete their section on the back and give it to the parent/guardian to sign. The club will then invoice either the City of Subiaco or the City of Nedlands. It’s that easy!
