Bulk and green waste removal

nullThe city offers free on demand green waste collection and four bulk waste and recycling collections each year.

Green waste collection

Book a green waste collection by filling out the online form below or leaving your details on the twenty-four-hour, seven-days-a-week telephone answering service. Call (08) 9387 0999 to record your address, daytime contact number and information regarding the location of your green waste.

Please note: This service is for residents only, and as such, is intended for residential prunings. Commercial tree loppers must remove refuse of their own accord.

Please see the following guidelines below as to what the city will remove:

  • Ensure that your loose green waste (fresh lawn, flower, shrub clippings, leaves, and weeds with no sand) is stored in the city's approved green waste collection bags only. These are available from the city's Administration Centre for a cost of $4.40 each.
  • Tree branches and pruning's no more than 1.5 meters in length can be placed on the verge with the cut end of the branch towards the kerb.
  • Tree trunks or stumps cut into pieces no larger than 300mm in diameter and no heavier than 15kg will also be removed.
  • Green waste piles should be no larger than 3 meters long by 2 meters wide by 2 meters high.
 
The city will not remove:

  • green waste generated by tree lopping/pruning contractors
  • green waste contaminated with sand, soil or other waste
  • green waste in bags other than the city's approved green waste collection bags
  • quantities excessively larger than permitted.
 
You can assist by:

  • placing greens neatly on the verge and ensuring items can be easily handled by one person 
  • placing your greens in an easily accessible area on your verge ensuring that you do not to obstruct footpaths or other bin collection services.
 
Your green waste will be collected within three to five working days however this is dependent on demand at the time.

Bulk waste collection

The city has four residential bulk waste collections each year. Items are recycled where possible.

Place rubbish neatly on your street verge. If you do not have a verge, place items inside the front boundary line or near an open gateway. The Subi Centro collection point is from rear lanes.

Please do not put rubbish out before the specified dates. Items must be placed on your verge by 6am on the first day of the removal period. 

nullThe city will remove:

  • furniture
  • timber products
  • stoves, and refrigerators with the doors removed
  • e-waste and electronic items
  • steel and metal items

Note: There is a limit to the quantity of waste equivalent to a 1.8m x 1.25m trailer capacity.

The city will not remove:

  • garden waste
  • bricks, builder’s rubble, sand or cement
  • foodstuff and household waste including medicines
  • motor vehicles, car parts, tyres and batteries
  • inflammable liquids and other hazardous materials such as paint, oil, and gas cylinders
  • asbestos cement products (see asbestos and hazardous materials page)

Note: Please note that any items over 1.5m in length will not be collected.

Note that many of these items not accepted for bulk rubbish can be taken to the JFR (Jim) McGeough Resource Recovery Facility. Visit the Western Metropolitan Regional Council website to find out what will be accepted (note that charges may apply – check the website).
